When science meets needs.

Don’t be so worried, AI is like your best friend. A sneaky & repetitive digital best friend who recommends you everything you might need in order to become happier. And it’s almost your fault.

SCIENCE
AI as we imagine it, is a droid acting like a human, with proper empathic reactions and feelings. That’s how Hollywood and some scientists would like it to be. But we are not quite that far in R&D.

The real AI in our today’s life is all about ads made from your data.

You might not realize it but your GAFA’s devices collect all your data and define you in databases. You use Google Chrome to go on e-shops, then you go back on Facebook and have a look on your new Instagram Friends’ stories on your iPhone. Wherever you go (GPS on), whatever you do (WIFI connected), you’re tracked and learned. The problem is that you don’t really care about because it could be useful.

NEEDS
AI is used by brands to push you, at the right moment, a beautiful content, you didn’t ask for but it’s for your own good. Based on your data and your network data, you can find on Facebook the last viral video, your discover on Instagram your next pair of shoes, you find on a random app your next addictive game, … #Bref

You don’t care about « giving » your data because it’s quite useful everyday. Now you begin to need it to stay connected with your peers. « Have you seen this? » « Have you read that? » Yes you did! You clicked, watched/read it because it was on the top of your feed. As you spend xx minutes a day on internet. Yes you did.

So now why would you stop « giving » your data? You are finally someone interesting to talk to 15 minutes a day. Why wouldn’t you be satisfied? AI is making you a better you.

IN BETWEEN
The real problem is that you’re not in charge here. Marketing & trends are in charge…. because big companies pay the GAFA to make you consume their goods and to make you feel happy about it.

I know you are not stupid. You already know that. But now you can choose what data you want to give. Here are 3 advice to change your predicted feed.

  • Erase your cookies regularly
    You know that trick. To avoid retargeting marketing after visiting an eshop or any other affiliated website, just erase your cookies from your browser.
  • Say it when you don’t like it
    On every Facebook and Instagram ad you have the possibility to « mask the ad » and explain why you don’t want to see it anymore. Actually this is how you can help the algorithm to learn about your taste (that’s someone from Instagram who told me that, after being bought by Facebook). Click on the top right corner of the ad.
  • Disconnect yourself
    Read, meet friends / new people, find hobbies. Without internet you still have a life, so embrace it!

After all, please, don’t panic. And remember that AI is for your own good. The goal is to make you become a happier consumer. 🙂
